Friday Favorites No. 1

I wanted to start posting a “Friday Favorites” post so I can show you guys some of the things that I am loving right now. This usually encompasses anything to do with my life, health, fitness and food. ALL the things. At first I thought that this might be a hard post to come up with every week, but boy was I wrong. I have so many new products, hacks and other things I want to share with you in hopes it makes your life easier OR you can relate. (here’s hopin’ some of you can!)

This weekend I have my staff Christmas party and I have to say, I have officially become lame AF. The last thing I want to do (ever) is go somewhere and drink until the sun comes up. Back in University, staying up until 4 am happened on the daily. Or the nightly… whatever. That’s besides the point. The point is, WTF was I thinking. I actually remember specific occasions where I had to set my alarm for 2pm so I could make it to my afternoon class on time. Isn’t that sick? It’s not even that I was partying, I just binge watched Sex and the City episodes and ate ice cream. Maybe I was always lame… hm. 

Anyways, the point is, I don’t feel like drinking and I don’t feel like dealing with any type of hangover. I have this idea in my head that on Sunday’s I’ll workout and eat really well so I feel energized going into the new week. Well, add a couple of Saturday night double vodka waters and that’s all shot to shit. I also don’t feel like dragging ass all day. How do people stay up past midnight and NOT need a nap the next day? God what twenty-something sounds like this. This is sad. Go home Linds. Go home. 

Now that we’re done talking about how lame I actually am, let’s talk Friday favs! 

Great Lakes Collagen

This wonderful powder is a Godsend for your hair, skin and nails. I add one serving of it to anything I’m drinking daily and the benefits are definitely noticeable. This collagen is cold AND hot water soluble so it will dissolve almost instantly in anything. It also doesn’t have any flavor whatsoever so you can add it to anything you want! Why collagen you ask? I’ll list some of the benefits below that I found online:

Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips

Of course one of my favorites had to be chocolate. If I am using chocolate in any of my recipes, it is ALWAYS this brand. The main reason is because the only ingredients are cocoa mass, coconut oil and brown sugar AND they are dairy free + paleo friendly. For some reason my stomach doesn’t handle dark chocolate in heavy doses, so this is a great alternative. It isn’t to sweet, yet it’s sweeter than most dark chocolates you would buy. This chocolate is great when used in baking or just snacking on. I used to order them online, but you can find them in most grocery stores now. The Christmas Elf

I remember when I was a kid and the only thing we would look forward to every morning in December was our advent calendars. Props to the fricken genius who sold this new experience to millions of children. I won’t lie, it is absolutely hilarious seeing your child light up over a little elf stuffy but it’s worth the hassle of making sure she moves around every night. I haven’t got to creative yet for the simple fact that I’ve been so busy. I mean, there are some definite cop outs like putting the elf in the fridge or making them climb the Christmas tree, but 31 days straight of over the top creative ideas? Nope. 

A couple of Blaizes’ favorites were when the elf ate her toast (aka, I put crumbs on the plate while her “new” toast was conveniently sitting there waiting to be cut) and drew her a picture. She LOVED it! One thing I am finding on the weekends is that she won’t let herself sleep in anymore because she’s so damn excited to see where the elf is. Damn you elf. Damn you.  


Okay so I know I’ve been doing Crossfit on and off for a couple of years now but I really felt like it should be added to my favorites list. It is unbelievable how much a workout regime can improve your ability to work through things in your life that you might not have worked through otherwise. Simple things like being more disciplined or getting out of your comfort zone are side effects of having to get uncomfortable on daily basis with your workouts. 

By now most people have a good idea what Crossfit is. If you don’t, you must live under

 a rock somewhere. It’s the sport of fitness, so it encompasses all things fitness to consistently test and push its athletes to be better in an “all-around” sense. To sum it all up, each WOD (workout of the 

day) could include gymnastics, Olympic lifting, endurance, agility and so much more. It’s meant to strengthen your weaknesses and test your mental state as much as your physical state. The best part is the community it builds. Ever heard the phrase “misery loves company”? We’re basically a group of people with a mutual desire for physical and mental pain that get together nightly to support each other through it. Weird hey? But it’s SO GREAT. 

Obviously I am an advocate for ANY type of physical activity. We as humans are meant to move around much more than most of us are. This is just another great way to do just that.
