Stuffed Dates

Christmas is officially over and I can’t actually believe it. Is it just me or did this year fricken fly by? It is exciting to think that 2018 is just around the corner only because it acts as the ultimate fresh start. You know when you wait for Monday’s just to try something new? Well January 1st is the Monday of all Monday’s and it presents the perfect opportunity for people to get there shit together. How fun!

Speaking of getting my shit together, I spoke in previous posts that I have been eating like shit lately. On my way home from my moms house last night I was listening to a couple of my favorite podcasts and they had mentioned fasting. Now before I go any further, I am not a huge fad dieter. I definitely like the idea of trying new things and switching it up but I always come back to the basics… eat whole, clean foods that make you feel good. The idea behind a 24 hour fast is to give your internal organs a break from having to break down all the food you’ve been eating. It basically acts as a “reset”, gets rid of the toxins in your body and helps give your gut a much needed rest.

I’m not a health practitioner but I acknowledge the idea that when we were hunter/gatherers we had periods of fasting and periods of eating. In my opinion our bodies really were meant to be exposed to periods of no food. Since we’re in the 21st century it’s pretty hard to replicate those conditions so instead having strategic short fasting periods isn’t such a bad idea! I’m not doing this to “lose weight” or to “starve myself” and I think it’s really important to acknowledge the fact that my intentions behind this are strictly to detox and give my insides a much-needed break from all the holiday food happening. 

Today I’m just simply increasing my intake of water and focusing on controlling my hanger. I’m not working out or doing anything stressful so I think I should be okay. I’m planning on breaking the fast tonight at about 9 pm… wish me luck! 


Since we’re on the topic of breaking my fast, let’s talk about these stuffed dates. They are so damn simple and pretty addicting. If you’re craving something sweet these are the perfect little sugary fat bombs you’ll need to satiate your hunger and satisfy your cravings. For my fellow mothers out there, my daughter tried these and LOVED them. It’s definitely a healthier alternative to all of the Christmas candy Santa got her. Damn you Santa, damn you. 

Stuffed Dates
Write a review
  1. Pitted dates
  2. Cashew or almond butter
  3. Shredded coconut (optional)
  1. Use half a teaspoon nut butter of choice to stuff each date
  2. Sprinkle shredded coconut on top (optional)
  1. If you don't have pitted dates, carefully cut open each date and remove pit before use
